How it works

Work through a 3-receiver progression, short, mid, deep, and throw to the first open target.

What you need

  • cones
  • football

Your focus

Reading a progression forces the QB's eyes to move through the field systematically instead of locking onto one receiver. This habit prevents turnovers and opens up the right throw.

1

Place 3 target cones: one 5 yards (flat), one 10 yards (curl), one 15 yards (go).

2

Parent covers one cone per rep (stands in front of it, covered).

3

Player reads the progression: flat first, curl second, deep third.

4

Throw to the first uncovered target within 3 seconds.

5

9 reps, cover each target 3 times in random order.

Goal

You've got it when you consistently throw to the correct target within 3 seconds on 8 of 9 reps.

Helpful cues

  • Pre-snap: identify who you want to throw to first
  • Eyes move before your feet, read, then step
  • Throw on time, don't wait for the receiver to be wide open

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Use only two targets (flat and curl) until the read feels automatic.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Parent covers targets in sequence to force a full progression on every rep.
