Route Tree Solo Reps
Play Recognition

How it works
Run each of the five basic pass routes from a line of scrimmage marker so route shapes become automatic before adding defenders or live reads.
What you need
- cones
Your focus
Receivers who have run every route shape hundreds of times alone can focus on reading the defense in a game instead of thinking about their feet. Solo route reps build the muscle memory that makes play recognition possible.
Set a cone as the line of scrimmage and another 10 yards downfield as the break point.
Start at the LOS cone. Run a slant: sprint 5 steps, break 45 degrees inside, run 5 more steps, stop.
Walk back. Run an out: sprint to the break point, break 90 degrees toward the sideline, run 5 steps, stop.
Continue through all 5 routes in order: slant, out, curl, post, go. Say the route name before each rep.
Do 2 reps of each route. On the second round, add a clap at the break point to simulate catching the ball.
Goal
You've got it when each route shape is automatic, you run it the same way every rep without having to think about where to break.
Helpful cues
- Plant hard on your break foot, don't drift
- Name the route before you run it
- Eyes up at the break point like the ball is already in the air

Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
