Your focus
Blitz recognition turns a potential sack into a scoring opportunity in flag football. Players who identify the blitz early have time to signal adjustments and execute against a defense that has committed to pressure. This skill requires observation, communication, and rapid adjustment, making it one of the most impactful play recognition skills at this level.
Defense aligns in either standard coverage or a blitz look; QB has 5 seconds to identify which.
If the QB calls blitz correctly, they signal a hot route and run the adjusted play.
If blitz is missed, the pass rusher pulls the QB flag after 2 seconds, resulting in a simulated sack.
Run 10 reps; track blitz identification accuracy and hot route execution quality.
Goal
Success is calling out the blitz before the snap and adjusting the play, recognition that's early enough to actually help.
Helpful cues
- Count the rushers first: more than normal means blitz
- Hot route call must come before the snap, not during
- Blitz recognition is watching, not guessing
