How it works
Test complete play recognition ability by requiring every player on both offense and defense to identify and react to the opponent formation before and after the snap in a live championship scrimmage.

Your focus
Full field play recognition is the highest level of cognitive demand in flag football. Both offense and defense must simultaneously recognize, communicate, and adjust their assignments based on evolving pre-snap and post-snap information. Teams with complete play recognition are the most tactically sophisticated and hardest to defend against.
Run a full 5v5 competitive scrimmage where both offensive and defensive captains must announce their formation read aloud before each snap.
Coach grades the formation read accuracy (1-3 points) and the resulting assignment adjustment quality (1-3 points) per play.
After 8 plays, each unit reviews their two lowest-scoring play recognition reps and identifies the specific visual cue they missed.
Run 4 more plays with the identified visual cues specifically targeted; compare recognition scores.
Goal
You're doing it right when both sides, offense and defense, correctly identify the opponent's structure before each play ends.
