How it works

Test and develop peak flag football endurance by running a full simulated game at competitive pace with only halftime recovery.

What you need

  • football
  • flags
  • cones

Your focus

The most valid endurance test is a full game simulation. Players who have only trained in shorter drills are unprepared for the cumulative fatigue of two full halves of competitive flag football. A full simulation also reveals where individual conditioning deficits affect performance, enabling targeted recovery protocols.

1

Split into two teams of 5; play two 10-minute halves of flag football at full competitive pace.

2

Halftime is limited to 3 minutes of recovery: active walking, hydration, and a brief tactical debrief.

3

Coaches track performance quality indicators (route precision, pursuit speed, communication clarity) in the first vs. second half.

4

Post-game: individual players identify their lowest-energy moment in the second half and develop a personal conditioning target.

Goal

You're doing it right when your second half of the simulation looks as sharp as your first, endurance held through the whole game.

Helpful cues

  • Pacing is a skill: do not sprint the first series and walk the last
  • Recovery at halftime is active, not passive
  • Your second-half performance is a direct report card on your conditioning

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Reduce to two 7-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a third 5-minute overtime period with only 90 seconds of recovery between the second half and overtime.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
