How it works
Drop from the line of scrimmage into a zone coverage position on the snap count.

Your focus
Zone coverage requires the defender to drop to a depth, find their zone, and then adjust based on route distribution. This drill trains the initial drop and lateral drift as separate, repeatable skills.
Mark the line of scrimmage with a cone. Place 3 zone target cones: flat left, hook, flat right.
Start at the line. On "hut", drop back to the hook zone.
Read parent signal: point left = drift to flat left, point right = flat right, straight = hold.
10 reps, mixing zone calls.
Focus on staying square to the line of scrimmage while dropping.
Goal
You've got it when you consistently reach the correct zone within 2 seconds of the call and arrive in a ready stance.
Helpful cues
- Backpedal to your drop depth, don't turn and run
- Keep your eyes on the QB, not the receivers
- Drift to the side of most receivers, don't chase one route
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Walk through the drop to a single zone, just hook, for 5 reps before adding the drift decision.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Parent calls two consecutive signals, drift then return to hook.No account needed
