Your focus
High-level flag football teams use sideline signals and play adjustments between series , players who respond quickly to these adjustments have a competitive edge. This drill simulates real-game coachability where applying a change under pressure is harder than in a calm practice walk-through. Fast adjustment cycles separate coachable athletes from resistive ones.
During a live small-sided activity flag football series, coaches use pre-agreed hand signals to call in mid-series adjustments (e.g., shift coverage, change a route).
QB and captain are responsible for recognizing the signal and communicating it to teammates in the huddle.
The adjusted play is run; coaches grade both recognition speed and execution quality.
Rotate which player is responsible for reading the signal each series.
Helpful cues
- Eyes on the sideline between every play
- If you get the signal, confirm it, don't guess
- The team trusts you to relay it accurately
