How it works
Develop efficient L-shaped cutting patterns that mirror common flag football route breaks.

Your focus
The L-drill mirrors the stop-and-go geometry of out routes and comeback routes used in flag football. Practicing directional changes at game-relevant speeds builds the deceleration and re-acceleration habit. Players who can cut cleanly create separation from defenders without needing contact evasion.
Place 3 cones in an L-shape: start cone, cone 5 yards ahead, cone 5 yards to the right.
Player sprints from start to the middle cone, plants hard, and cuts 90 degrees to the third cone.
After reaching the third cone, player sprints back through the start gate.
Run 3 reps cutting right and 3 reps cutting left; rest 30 seconds between sets.
Goal
You're there when your L-cut breaks are sharp enough that a defender following your path would lose a full step at the corner.
Helpful cues
- Drive your knee into the cut
- Short choppy steps before the break
- Explode out of the cut, don't drift
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Walk through the pattern twice before adding speed.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Have a QB throw to the receiver at the break point of the cut.No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
