How it works
Build resilience by practicing an immediate positive response after making a mistake in a team relay drill.
What you need
- field hockey sticks
- field hockey ball
- cones
Your focus
The bounce-back speed after a mistake is a trainable resilience skill. Young players who have a practiced positive response return to performance faster. Team relay format adds light social pressure that mirrors the feeling of a game mistake.
Relay race; if a player's ball goes out of their lane, they retrieve it and continue, no stopping.
Coach calls out 'bounce back!' when a player makes an error; the player must respond 'I'm back!' and immediately re-engage.
After the relay, count: how many bounce-backs happened and how fast were they?
Celebrate the fastest bounce-backs as much as the winning relay team.
Helpful cues
