How it works
Move through four positional spots in a diamond shape to practice field hockey positional awareness.
What you need
- cones
Your focus
Field hockey positions are rarely fixed , they shift constantly based on the ball. Running a positional circuit teaches your body the spatial relationships between roles so they become automatic.
Set 4 cones in a diamond: top, left, bottom, right, each 8 yards apart.
Start at bottom cone. Sprint to right, then top, then left, then back to bottom.
Walk through the shape first, calling out what position each cone represents.
5 circuits at jog pace, then 5 at full speed.
Focus on controlled stops and immediate change of direction.
Goal
You've got it when all 5 full-speed circuits are completed without any hesitation between cones.
Helpful cues
- Sprint to the position, don't drift
- At each cone, square your hips to face play
- Name the role as you arrive, makes the learning stick
