How it works
Build a positive mindset toward failure by debriefing each mistake in a dribbling drill as a learning opportunity.
What you need
- field hockey sticks
- field hockey ball
- cones
Your focus
How athletes think about failure determines how they respond to it. Players who see mistakes as data points improve faster than those who see them as evidence of failure. Structured debriefing builds the mindset habit of learning from every error.
Players complete a challenging moving with the ball course with multiple gates; mistakes are inevitable.
After each attempt, player identifies one thing they learned from a mistake.
Players bank their learnings in a 'failure journal' (write it down).
At end of session, players share the most useful failure insight they banked.
Helpful cues
- A mistake you learn from is a win in disguise
- Name the mistake, name the fix
- Your failure bank makes you richer every session
