- field hockey ball

- mini goals
Your focus
1v1 situations are where lack of confidence is most visible , hesitation and ball loss. Teaching players a confidence cue (physical, verbal, or mental) before each 1v1 creates a positive mental state entering the contest. Confidence in 1v1s is foundational for all attacking play.
Set up 1v1 lanes with mini goals; 10 players work in pairs.
Before each 1v1 attempt, the attacker must do a confidence cue of their choice (fist pump, deep breath, positive word).
Run the 1v1; debrief after 5 attempts.
Compare attempts with and without the confidence cue.
Goal
You're there when you commit to your attacking move without hesitating or second-guessing halfway through, pick it and go.
Helpful cues
- Choose your cue and make it yours
- Take the initiative, the confident player wins more
