How it works
Develop teamwork and communication under pressure in a 4v2 possession rondo with a mandatory communication standard.
What you need
- field hockey sticks
- field hockey ball
- cones
Your focus
Rondo exercises develop quick thinking and combination play. Adding the communication rule forces players to vocalize options, not just react physically. Teams that communicate in rondo practice develop faster decision-making and better collective intelligence in games.
Set up a 12x12-yard grid; 4 players on the outside, 2 defenders in the center.
Outside players keep possession; every pass must be preceded by the receiver calling for the ball.
If a pass is made without a call, it counts as a turnover to the defenders.
Defenders who win the ball swap with the passer who made the uncommunicated pass.
Helpful cues
- Show for the ball and call simultaneously
- Support on two sides of the ball at all times
- One and two-touch possession requires early calling
