How it works

Demonstrate coachability under game-like pressure by accepting and implementing tactical adjustments during a scrimmage.

What you need

  • field hockey sticks
  • field hockey ball
  • pinnies
  • goals

Your focus

Coachability is most valuable and most difficult under pressure. A competitive scrimmage creates emotional investment, making it harder to accept correction , exactly when the skill matters most. Players who practice it here will carry it into competition.

1

Run a full 5v5 or 6v6 scrimmage.

2

Every 5 minutes, coach calls a timeout and gives each team one specific tactical adjustment.

3

Teams must implement the adjustment immediately in the next passage of play.

4

After the scrimmage, each player names the adjustment they were given and how they applied it.

Goal

Success is making the tactical adjustment in real time during the scrimmage, not nodding and reverting to old habits.

Helpful cues

  • Frustration is a signal that you care, channel it into focus
  • Tactical adjustments are a competitive advantage, not criticism
  • The fastest learner wins
