How it works
Practice receiving and immediately applying coaching feedback during a passing drill to build coachability habits.
What you need
- field hockey sticks
- field hockey ball
- cones
Your focus
Coachability is the ability to hear feedback and apply it quickly. This drill gives players structured practice at the receive-process-apply cycle. Positive reinforcement when feedback is applied well encourages openness to coaching.
Pairs pass back and forth over 10 yards.
After every 5 passes, coach gives one specific technical tip to one player.
The player acknowledges the feedback, then immediately implements it in the next 5 passes.
Coach confirms whether the change was made; player reflects on what they adjusted.
Goal
You've got it when you apply the coach's correction on the very next rep, not two reps later, not with a shrug, the immediate next one.
Helpful cues
- Say 'got it' and then prove it
