How it works
Develop explosive leg power by combining box jumps with an immediate aggressive rebound sequence.
What you need
- plyometric box
- basketball
- hoop
Your focus
Rebounding ability is closely linked to lower-body explosive power. Players who can transfer ground force quickly into vertical explosion have a significant advantage in box-out and offensive rebound situations. Linking the box jump to a rebound creates a power-to-sport-skill transfer that pure weight training cannot achieve.
Player stands in front of a 12-inch box. Two-foot takeoff, land on box, immediately jump off toward the basket.
Coach throws ball off the backboard as player lands from the box jump.
Player must out-jump a rebounder to secure the ball.
Complete 8 sequences. Rest 45 seconds between sets. Do 3 sets.
Goal
Success is landing the box jump, pivoting to the board, and securing the rebound above the rim, explosive and controlled in sequence.
Helpful cues
- Off the box and go, minimal ground contact time
- Chin the ball immediately on the catch, two hands
- Use your arms to gain height, big arm swing on the second jump
