Your focus
Reading the ball and moving to the opposite side is the fundamental spacing action in basketball. Drilling this reaction builds the automatic movement that opens up the entire offense.
Place cones at 5 spots: both corners, both wings, and the top of the key.
Parent holds the ball and moves it to different positions.
Player must immediately move to the opposite side of the floor from the ball.
Stay spaced, at least 15 feet from the ball.
Do 10 reps, then switch to having the player call the correct spot before moving.
Goal
You've got it when you move to the correct side within 1 second of the ball moving on all 10 reps.
Helpful cues
- Watch the ball, not where you want to go
- Move when the ball moves, don't wait
- Get to the spot quickly, then be still and available
