Your focus
Game environments are full of distractions , crowd noise, trash talk, coaching from the sideline. Players who can maintain focus on their technique and routine despite external noise perform consistently in all environments. Training focus under distraction is a high-leverage mental skill.
Player stands at the free-throw line to shoot 10 consecutive attempts.
Coach and teammates create distraction: cheering, clapping, calling names, making sounds.
Player focuses on their routine, bounce-bounce-bounce, breathe, aim, shoot, regardless of noise.
Track percentage under distraction versus a clean baseline. Narrow the gap over time.
Goal
You've got it when your mechanics are identical on the distracted shot and the quiet shot, the outside noise was there, but it didn't reach your hands.
Helpful cues
- The noise can't hurt you, block it with your routine
- See the target and see nothing else, that's basketball focus
- Routine is an anchor, when distracted, return to it
