Your focus
Players who dive for loose balls and get up to attack convert extra possessions into points. The physical and mental commitment to dive , and then compete immediately , defines teams with elite effort cultures. This drill trains both the physical action and the recovery intensity needed to make loose balls count.
Coach rolls ball toward half-court sideline. Player sprints and dives to secure it safely.
After securing the ball, player immediately gets up and attacks the basket for a layup.
Coach times from dive to layup attempt, target under 4 seconds.
Complete 8 reps per player. Grade on hustle (did they sprint full speed?) and recovery speed.
Goal
It's working when you hit the floor, come up with the ball, and immediately attack the other end, the dive and the attack are one play, not two.
Helpful cues
- Dive with purpose, safe but committed
- Get up fast, the possession isn't over when you get the ball
