Your focus
The spin move is one of the most effective ways to beat a defender who is overplaying, but it requires precise body control to avoid travel violations and maintain balance. Players who master the spin can score from anywhere on the floor. The drill builds the spatial awareness and core control that make this a reliable weapon.
Player dribbles from the wing, attacks the defender cone at the elbow, and initiates a spin move.
Key: pivot foot stays planted, dribble hand transfers during the spin, maintain low center of gravity.
Come out of the spin attacking the lane for a layup or pull-up.
Run 5 reps from each side. Coach checks: legal pivot, no travel, balance maintained.
Goal
You're there when the spin finishes with the ball still live and your feet already set for the next move, no stumble on exit, no palming.
Helpful cues
- Protect the ball during the spin, pull it tight to your body
- Stay low, if you pop up, you'll lose your balance
- Come out of the spin with the ball already in attack position
