How it works
Develop the footwork coordination and body control needed to execute a legal euro step layup.
What you need
- basketball
- hoop
- cones
Your focus
The euro step requires players to coordinate a two-step sequence that changes direction while maintaining body control and legal footwork. Mastering this move requires balance, timing, and spatial awareness. Athletes who own this move create separation from defenders in ways that straight-line attacks cannot.
Set a cone at the top of the paint. Player attacks from the wing, gathers at the cone.
Step right (away from defender), then cross step left into the layup (or vice versa).
Focus on: legal gather, two distinct footsteps, soft layup finish with the off hand.
Do 5 reps attacking from each side. Coach checks footwork legality on every rep.
Goal
Success is a legal euro step that ends with a clean layup, two steps, correct foot, no travel. The footwork is clean or it doesn't count.
Helpful cues
- Gather before you step, don't skip the gather
- Big step right, bigger step left, sell the move
- Finish with the opposite hand, that's what makes it effective
