How it works

Compete at maximum intensity in a simulated 2-minute game-winning scenario with the score tied.

What you need

  • hoop
  • scoreboard
  • clock

Your focus

Most players practice at 70% intensity, but game-deciding moments demand 100%. Repeatedly simulating close-game scenarios trains players to embrace rather than avoid high-stakes moments. Teams that practice the last 2 minutes consistently play better in them during real games.

1

Set clock at 2:00, score tied 20–20. Play 4v4 half-court.

2

Only the game clock stops for out-of-bounds, fouls result in free throws.

3

After time expires, debrief: Who competed hardest? What decisions changed under pressure?

4

Run 3 consecutive simulations and track which team performs best across all three.

Goal

You're there when the simulation produces the same decisions you'd make in a real game, nothing forced or tentative, just clear competitive execution under the clock.

Helpful cues

  • Every possession is worth the game right now, act like it
  • Stay composed, panic is the opponent in these moments
  • The team that competes harder for 2 minutes almost always wins
