How it works

Adapt immediately to a mid-drill technique change called by the coach to build responsive learning.

What you need

  • basketball
  • hoop
  • cones

Your focus

Coaches adjust tactics during games and practices , coachable players adapt without friction. This drill trains neural flexibility: the ability to override a habit and execute a new instruction on the fly. The best players in the world credit coachability as a key factor in their growth.

1

Player executes a standard 3-cone move with the ball drill using a crossover move.

2

Midway through the drill, coach calls 'Switch!' and names a different move (e.g., between the legs).

3

Player must smoothly transition to the new move without stopping or losing the move with the ball.

4

Coach calls switches every 5 seconds. Track how cleanly the player adjusts.

Helpful cues

  • Listen while you move, don't wait for a pause
  • React fast, hesitation means you're overthinking
  • Every adjustment makes you harder to defend
