Your focus
Game situations require players to react to unexpected stimuli, not preplanned movements. Reaction-based drills train the brain to process and respond faster. This translates directly to reading a defender's shift and attacking the open lane.
Set 5 cones in a star pattern with player in the center.
Coach calls a cone number (1–5) or points; player sprints to that cone and back to center.
Player maintains a ball dribble throughout the entire drill.
Run for 30 seconds, rest 15 seconds, repeat 3 times.
Goal
Success is reacting to the called cone within one step, no extra prep step, just immediate movement in the right direction.
Helpful cues
- First step is your fastest step
- Stay on the balls of your feet in the center
- Don't watch the coach, listen and react
