How it works

Develop the habit of maintaining inside hand position and forward body pressure in neutral tie-up situations.

What you need

  • wrestling mat

Your focus

Controlling inside hand position prevents the opponent from generating offensive attacks while allowing constant forward pressure that breaks down their stance. Wrestlers who consistently fight for and maintain inside position create a physical and psychological disadvantage for their opponents. Establishing this habit early produces wrestlers who are constantly threatening even when not actively attacking.

1

Partners clinch in an over-under position; wrestler A's goal is to achieve inside position (both underhooks or wrist control) and maintain forward pressure.

2

Wrestler A focuses on driving their chest forward while fighting for inside hand position for 30 seconds.

3

Wrestler B uses passive resistance, not fighting aggressively back, to help Wrestler A practice maintaining pressure.

4

Switch roles every 30 seconds for 6 total sets; increase resistance level progressively each set.

Goal

It's clicking when you're consistently on the inside and moving your partner, inside position plus forward movement equals pressure.

Helpful cues

  • Chest into them, don't let daylight open between you
  • Hands inside means they can't build offense, own that space
  • Forward pressure isn't one moment, it's constant

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Wrestler B stands still while Wrestler A practices driving forward with inside hands only.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Wrestler B actively fights back; Wrestler A must maintain inside position and pressure against full resistance.
