Your focus
The Granby roll is a high-percentage escape that creates movement and scramble opportunities the top wrestler must react to, often creating scoring chances for the bottom wrestler. Training it as a series rather than a single move teaches wrestlers to keep attacking if the first Granby doesn't produce a clean escape. This prepares athletes for live situations where a single move rarely produces an immediate result.
Bottom wrestler starts in referee's position with a partner applying a cross-body ride (one arm, one leg).
Execute a Granby roll toward the controlled side, loading the shoulder and rolling through.
If no escape results from the first roll, immediately initiate a second roll in the opposite direction.
Continue chaining rolls until an escape or reversal is achieved; practice 3-minute continuous rounds.
Goal
You're there when you can chain 3 Granby movements before stopping, continuous rolls, staying tight, not slowing to reset between each one.
Helpful cues
- Shoulder leads the roll, not your head
- Stay compact; wide arms kill the Granby
- Attack the second roll before they reset on you
