How it works
Build volleyball-specific jump height and power through a structured approach-jump sequence.
What you need
- cones
Your focus
The 3-step approach is the foundation of every attack in volleyball. Training the footwork pattern and the two-foot jump repeatedly builds the timing and explosive power that produces effective attacks.
Mark a 3-step approach pattern with cones.
Step 1: right foot. Step 2: left foot. Step 3: two-foot plant and explode.
Jump as high as possible, swinging both arms for momentum.
Land softly with bent knees. Walk back. Repeat.
15 reps. On the final 5, time your jump, try to maximize air time.
Goal
You've got it when the footwork pattern feels automatic and your jump peak reaches the same height on rep 15 as on rep 1.
Helpful cues
- Right-left-together: the last two steps are the power step
- Swing both arms back before jumping, arms generate 30% of jump height
- Land on both feet, balanced, protect your ankles
