How it works
Develop a controlled topspin serve that dips sharply at the receiver and lands within the court boundary at higher velocity.

Your focus
The topspin serve is the primary power serving weapon at the high school and collegiate level because the Magnus effect causes the ball to dip, making it difficult to track and platform correctly. Generating controlled topspin requires correct wrist snap over the top of the ball , a skill that takes deliberate repetition to groove. This serve directly pressures passers in competition.
Player tosses the ball higher than a float serve (2–3 feet above hitting shoulder) to allow a full arm swing.
At contact, the hand rolls over the top half of the ball with a strong wrist snap, finishing with fingers pointing downward after contact.
Serve 10 balls and watch for downward trajectory dip near the net, a clear sign of topspin.
Measure depth of serve by marking two zones: the first 5 feet inside the end line (good topspin depth) and the no-player's-land near the net (too shallow). Track landing zones across 20 serves.
Goal
You're there when your topspin serve dips inside the back third of the court and stays in, power with a downward finish.
