How it works
Train players to make strategic serve target selections by identifying the weakest passer or least-covered zone before serving.
What you need

Your focus
Serving is the only skill in volleyball where the player has full control of time and location. Teaching players to serve with intention , rather than 'just get it in' , dramatically increases serving effectiveness. Strategic target selection trains the pre-action scanning and decision habits that apply to all tactical moments in the game.
Mark four serving zones on the receiving side (deep left, deep right, short left, short right) with cones; place three receivers in different configurations for each rep.
Before serving, the server has 5 seconds to identify and call their target zone aloud based on receiver positioning.
Server executes the serve to the called zone; 2 points for a zone ace, 1 point for correct zone but passed, 0 for wrong zone.
Coach rotates receiver formations between reps to present different tactical problems; discuss the best target after each rep.
Goal
It's clicking when you can explain which zone you targeted and why before you serve, the choice was deliberate, not random.
