How it works
Train outside and right-side hitters to make strategic shot selections based on block coverage and defensive alignment.

Your focus
Tactical hitting , as opposed to swinging for a power kill regardless of defense , significantly increases attack efficiency at the 14-18 level where blockers are physically capable of absorbing power hits. Teaching hitters to read the block and select shots strategically (sharp angle, deep line, tool the block, cut shot) creates multi-dimensional attackers who are far more difficult to defend.
Setter runs a live offense with two hitters (positions 4 and 2); two blockers position on the opposite side of the net.
Blockers randomly choose one of three block postures: reach inside (leave line open), reach outside (leave angle open), or straight-arm (both options partially covered).
Hitter must read the block during approach and select the corresponding shot; coach observes shot selection BEFORE evaluating execution.
Run 20 swings per hitter across all three block postures; debrief on recognition accuracy vs. execution accuracy separately.
Goal
You're there when your shot selection is based on what the block and defense gave you, off the block, through the seam, or sharp angle as needed.
