How it works
Give players a personal reset routine they use consistently after mistakes to maintain a positive attitude.

Your focus
Attitude is often tested most severely in the immediate seconds after an error. Having a personal routine , a quick physical and mental reset , prevents a single mistake from triggering a downward spiral. USA Volleyball IMPACT teaches that great players respond, not react, to adversity.
Coach explains: 'The three-second rule, you get three seconds to feel your emotions, then you reset.'
Each player develops their own reset gesture: fist pump, clap hands, take a breath, tap the floor, etc.
During passing or serving drills, whenever a player makes an error, coach calls 'Reset!' and the player must execute their gesture immediately and say something positive ('Next ball,' 'I've got this').
Teammates mirror the reset energy and respond with encouragement.
At end of practice, players share their reset gesture and phrase with the team.
Helpful cues
