How it works
Shift players' focus from outcome (win/loss) to process (effort, technique, tactics) by introducing a dual-scoring system during practice matches.

Your focus
Players who score only for winning learn to fear losing; players who also score for process learn to compete without anxiety. A dual-scoring system creates a concrete framework for process focus that abstract encouragement cannot provide. Over time, players internalize that controlling effort and execution is the path to results.
During a practice set, players keep two scores: the regular game score and a 'process score.'
Award one process point after each point played (regardless of outcome) if the player: split stepped on every ball, recovered to center after each shot, and used their pre-point routine.
After the set, calculate the process score percentage (process points earned / total points played).
Debrief: was there a correlation between high process score games and winning those games? Discuss.
Helpful cues
- You control the process, not the result
- What did you earn process points on?
- A high process score means you're playing your best tennis
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Track only one process behavior (split step) instead of three.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Add tactical process points: correctly identifying and executing an open-court shot earns a bonus process point. No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
