How it works
Challenge advanced players to execute complex multidirectional movement patterns at match intensity while maintaining shot quality.

Your focus
Advanced match play demands explosive multidirectional movement combined with precise shot execution, a combination that must be trained together, not separately. Working through a complex cone pattern under time pressure simulates the physical and cognitive load of decisive points. Players who train footwork at this level consistently outperform peers in shot selection and court coverage during long matches.
Place five cones: center baseline, wide forehand, wide backhand, mid-court forehand, and mid-court backhand.
Coach calls out a three-cone sequence (e.g., 'wide forehand, center, mid backhand') and simultaneously begins feeding balls to each location in that order.
Player must split step before each feed, move to the cone location using correct footwork for that position, execute the shot, and recover to center.
Run the sequence at increasing speed across three sets; time each set and track errors vs. speed tradeoff.
Goal
It's real when you complete the full cone pattern and your shot still lands in the court, footwork speed doesn't matter if the ball goes out.
Helpful cues
- Anticipate, don't react, read the pattern
- First step is the most important
- Foot position determines shot quality
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Announce the full three-cone sequence before feeding begins so the player can plan.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Call sequences randomly mid-point with no advance notice, and require all shots to land in designated target zones. No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
