Sharpen advanced tactical decision making by playing competitive points where both players must justify every shot choice in a structured post-point analysis.

Your focus
At the advanced level, the gap between players is often tactical rather than technical. Forced verbalization of shot rationale after every point develops meta-cognition , thinking about how one thinks. This practice of deliberate tactical reflection produces faster in-match adjustments and smarter pattern play under competition conditions.
Two players compete in live-point play with full scoring; after every point, the player who lost must explain the tactical reason they lost (not a stroke fault but a decision error).
The player who won must also explain why their decision on the winning shot was correct tactically.
Coach arbitrates disagreements and adds a third perspective when both players misread the tactical situation.
Play 25 points; each player builds a live decision list noting their most frequent tactical misreads and one correction for each.
Goal
It's real when you can explain every shot choice after the point is done, your decisions had a reason, even if they didn't always work.
Helpful cues
- Every shot has a reason, know yours!
- What did you see that made you hit there?
- A wrong decision you understand is better than a right one you don't.
