How it works
Build elite mental resilience by practicing a structured two-shot response sequence, an aggressive reset shot followed by a match-level winner attempt, immediately after every unforced error.
What you need
- tennis racket
- tennis balls
- court
- ball hopper
Your focus
Advanced players need to channel the energy of an error into the very next point rather than carrying negative emotion forward. The two-shot structure (reset then attack) trains a concrete behavioral response that redirects aggression productively. Practicing this pattern under realistic match conditions ensures it becomes automatic when tournament pressure is highest.
Player and coach play live crosscourt rally; coach designates every third error as a 'reset trigger.'
On a reset trigger, player immediately steps to the ad court and serves to begin a live point.
Player's goal on the live point is to be the first to attack with an intentional aggressive shot, not to just keep the ball in but to go for a winner.
Coach debriefs after 10 triggered points: how many reset points did the player win, and was the attitude of the swing aggressive or tentative?
Goal
It's working when you hit your reset shot with intent rather than frustration, then attack the next ball like the error never happened, the bounce-back is automatic.
Helpful cues
- Errors give you energy, use it on the next point
- Attack from the first short ball after an error, don't go conservative
- Your reset routine is your bridge from the last point to the next one
