Your focus
First-step speed is the foundation of all soccer acceleration. Young players build it through short bursts with full recovery , the nervous system adapts to fire as fast as possible over short distances.
Mark a start line and a finish line 10 yards apart.
Player stands in a ready position, bent knees, weight forward.
Parent says 'GO', player sprints to the line as fast as possible.
Walk back. Do 8 sprints with full rest between each.
Game version: parent holds up fingers, player must shout the number before sprinting.
Goal
You've got it when you're accelerating from the first step, not the second.
