Your focus
Full-field speed in transition is one of the highest-value physical contributions a player can make. Training the physical and technical demands of full-field sprints , going from defending to attacking at top speed across 60+ yards , builds match-specific explosive endurance.
Play 6v6 on a full field. When the ball crosses the halfway line, all players must sprint to the correct side.
The furthest player from the ball on the transitioning team must sprint the full length to join the attack/defense.
Coach tracks which players sprint vs. jog in transition.
Award a bonus point for any goal directly involving the player who made the full-field sprint.
Play 20 minutes; track full-field sprints per player.
Debrief: who made the most full-field efforts and did it change outcomes?
Goal
It's clicking when your transition sprint in the live game creates a chance that wouldn't exist if you'd jogged, speed made the difference, and you felt it.
Helpful cues
- Transition is where your speed creates a chance or prevents a goal
- Full sprint, not 80%, in transition. The game can be won in that difference.
- Arrive in the attack: your run is a threat even if you don't touch the ball
