Your focus
Advanced off-ball movement requires multiple players to coordinate their runs simultaneously. Training this in full-team contexts , where each player's movement creates space for another , develops the collective off-ball intelligence that creates goals against organized defenses.
Coach draws up a 'movement map', 5 coordinated off-ball runs for the attacking shape against a set defensive block.
Walk through the map without defenders, players learn their specific run.
Execute against passive defenders.
Execute against active defenders in an 8v8 half-field game.
Award 3 points for goals that came from the designated movement map.
Players earn 1 point for successfully completing their specific run even if no goal results.
Goal
It's working when the movement sequences create genuine scoring chances in the 11v11, not just movement for the sake of it, but runs that force defenders to choose.
Helpful cues
- Your movement triggers your teammate's movement, you're all connected
- If your run doesn't work, reset and try the next map option, don't freelance
- The defense can't stop all five runs, someone will be open
