Your focus
Defenders who clear aimlessly give possession back. Training directional clearances , targeting the sideline or specific zones , builds the precision to relieve pressure and start counterattacks.
Set two cones 20 yards away in a diagonal, one left channel, one right channel.
Player takes the ball in the defensive third.
Strike a driven clearance diagonally to the left cone target. Walk, retrieve, repeat to right.
Do 10 reps to each side.
Score: 2 points for hitting inside the zone, 1 for near, 0 for missing completely.
Goal
You've nailed it when 7 of 10 clearances land in or near the target zone on each side.
Helpful cues
- Strike with your laces, not your toe
