How it works
Strike a ball at a wall and control each return with a perfect first touch before striking again.
What you need
- soccer ball
- wall
Your focus
First touch under pressure is the most important technical skill in soccer. The wall gives the ball back fast at unexpected angles, forcing the player to set a clean touch every time.
Stand 4 yards from a wall with a ball.
Pass firmly at the wall with your right foot.
Control the return with your left foot, one touch only.
Pass again with your right foot. Repeat 10 times.
Switch, pass with your left, control with your right. Do 3 sets of 10 each direction.
Goal
You've got it when every return is controlled in one touch and you're immediately ready to pass again.
Helpful cues
- Cushion the ball, don't stab at it
- Get your body behind the ball
- Set your touch into space, not under your feet
