Your focus
The rondo is the foundational possession drill in soccer development. It compresses all ball-control fundamentals , receiving, shielding, playing out of pressure , into a small space with real defensive pressure.
Set up a circle 10 yards in diameter. 5 players outside, 2 defenders inside.
Outside players pass the ball, keeping it away from the 2 defenders.
If a defender wins the ball or forces an error, the player who lost it becomes a defender.
Outside players must take maximum 2 touches.
Count the number of consecutive passes; aim to beat the team record.
Play for 6 minutes with rotating defenders.
Goal
You're there when you can keep the ball for 5 consecutive touches under pressure without a desperate clearance, every touch has a purpose, nothing is panicked.
Helpful cues
- Open your stance to receive, see the whole circle
- First touch away from pressure
- Move after you pass, find a new angle
