Your focus
Elite athletes use pre-performance routines to control mindset before they compete. Teaching this habit early , before stakes are high , ensures players arrive at every practice and game mentally prepared.
At the start of practice, each player completes a 3-part mindset routine: 1) Name one thing they're grateful for in lacrosse. 2) State one specific goal for today's practice. 3) Say a personal performance word (e.g., 'sharp,' 'fast,' 'connect').
Coach collects these aloud from each player.
At the end of practice, players revisit their goal: did they achieve it?
Make this a consistent practice-opening ritual.
Helpful cues
- Gratitude connects you to why you play, start there
- A practice goal gives you something to measure; don't skip it
- Your performance word is your mindset in one word, own it
