How it works

Complete a complex agility ladder pattern, receive a pass, and immediately shoot on goal.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • agility ladder
  • goal
  • cones (for variations)

Your focus

Combining footwork complexity with a finishing skill trains the player to execute technical actions after athletic exertion. This replicates cutting off-ball and arriving at the shooting spot ready to finish.

1

Set up a 10-rung agility ladder 10 yards from goal, with a feeder stationed at the side.

2

Player completes an in-out-in-out two-foot ladder pattern.

3

On exit, player calls for ball; feeder passes immediately.

4

Player catches and shoots in one motion before the defender (coach) can close out. Complete 8 reps.

Goal

Success is catching the pass clean at full speed out of the ladder and releasing a shot on frame, the footwork feeds the shot, not disrupts it.

Helpful cues

  • Finish the ladder clean before looking for the ball
  • Catch with soft hands and load the shot in one motion
  • Eyes on the corner of the goal as the ball arrives

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Replace ladder with simple cone weave; add extra time before shot.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a live defender who releases from behind the goal as the player exits the ladder.
