How it works
Build power crossover technique by skating repeated forward and backward crossover circles around the face-off circles.
What you need
- hockey stick
- ice
Your focus
Crossovers are the power generation mechanism for all curved skating , turns, circle work, offensive and defensive arcs. Training proper outside-edge drive and inside-edge crossing on the face-off circles develops both the strength and the coordination needed for elite crossovers. Players who develop powerful crossovers have significantly faster lateral acceleration in all directions.
Players skate forward crossovers around the right face-off circle five times, then switch to backward crossovers for five.
Switch to the left face-off circle and repeat.
Focus on outside-edge drive for power and inside-edge step-over for crossing.
Run two full sets of both circles in both directions.
Goal
Success is staying exactly on the face-off circle arc through your crossovers, not drifting inside or outside the line.
Helpful cues
- Drive from the outside edge, do not just step
- Lean into the circle, your inside shoulder goes down
- Push from the hip, not from the ankle
