Your focus
Board battles are a constant reality in hockey, and the team that wins them is often the one that has a player already skating to the support position before the battle ends.
Mark board position (left wall) with a cone and two outlet positions.
Start at center. Parent calls "battle", skate to the support outlet cone.
Receive imaginary pass from the board. Skate into open ice.
10 reps, alternate left and right board positions.
Focus on scanning before the call so you already know your outlet.
Goal
You've got it when you arrive at the outlet cone before the 3-second count on 8 of 10 reps.
Helpful cues
- Pre-read the board battle before you're called, be already moving
- Skate to space, not to the puck
- Open your body to receive, don't skate parallel to the boards
