How it works

Your focus
The cross-ice one-timer setup is the single most dangerous offensive play in hockey at all levels , a perfectly timed pass to an open shooter creates a virtually unstoppable shot. Delivering this pass consistently requires precise timing, lead-pass accuracy, and reading the shooter's positioning. Teams with a reliable one-timer setup convert power plays at dramatically higher rates.
Passer sets up on the half-wall with the puck; shooter sets up at the opposite face-off circle.
Passer must deliver a crisp cross-ice pass precisely onto the shooter's stick in their shooting motion.
Shooter takes the one-timer on net; a penalty killer may be positioned to block.
Run 15 reps; evaluate pass timing and accuracy, not just whether it goes in.
Goal
You're doing it right when your cross-ice pass lands on your partner's tape right as they're loaded and ready, timing and accuracy locked in.
Helpful cues
- Lead the shooter, pass to where they will be when they release, not where they are standing
- Hard and flat, a bouncing one-timer pass is nearly impossible to shoot
- Your eye line dictates the pass, look directly at your target's stick blade
