How it works

Develop leadership and team culture by training players to initiate a brief positive team huddle after scoring a goal during scrimmage.

What you need

  • hockey stick
  • puck
  • ice

Your focus

Leaders shape team culture most powerfully in emotional moments , a goal scored is the highest-energy positive moment in hockey. Training players to lead a brief, genuine team acknowledgment after scoring builds positive team identity and teaches leadership through celebration rather than only through adversity. Teams with strong goal-celebration culture develop higher cohesion and compete level.

1

Establish a rule in all scrimmages: after every goal, the scoring player must immediately call a 5-second team huddle.

2

Scoring player must say one specific positive thing to a teammate in the huddle.

3

All five players on ice touch sticks before breaking.

4

Debrief after the scrimmage on the quality and consistency of huddles.

Helpful cues

  • The huddle is not a celebration of you, it is a reset of the team
  • Be specific: name what your teammate did to make the goal possible
  • One genuine sentence is worth more than any fist pump alone

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge
