How it works
Develop elite-level body control by combining tight-turn skating with advanced deking moves in a continuous combination sequence.

- hockey stick
- puck
- cones
- ice
Your focus
At an advanced level, body control is expressed through the seamless integration of skating moves and puck-handling dekes , a combination that requires total body coordination. Practicing sequences rather than isolated skills trains the neural pathways that allow elite players to execute complex moves instinctively at game speed. This drill directly prepares players for high-skill offensive situations.
Set up a combination course: tight 180-degree turn around a cone, immediate backhand-to-forehand deke over a stick barrier, crossovers around a circle, finish with a toe-drag shot on net.
Player runs the course at game speed.
Each element must be connected smoothly, no pausing between movements.
Run 6 reps; coach evaluates coordination, not speed, for the first 3 reps.
Goal
You're doing it right when your tight turns feed directly into deke attempts without a reset pause, it all flows as one motion.
Helpful cues
- The move flows from your core, not your hands or feet separately
- Stay connected: turn-deke-cross-shoot is one motion
- Trust your edges on the tight turn, your body knows how
