How it works
Build advanced crossover coordination and body control by performing precise crossover patterns at increasing speed with a puck.
What you need
- hockey stick
- puck
- cones
- ice
Your focus
Elite crossovers require full coordination between upper body stability, lower body power, and edge precision , all while the stick controls a puck. A ladder progression allows players to build speed while maintaining technical form, which is the key to crossovers that generate power rather than just movement. Coordinated crossovers directly increase lateral speed in game situations.
Set up 5 cone gates in a curved arc across the neutral zone.
Player begins crossovers at half speed through all 5 gates with a puck.
Each rep increases speed by 25%, 4 reps total, with the 4th at near-maximum.
Maintain outside-edge drive and inside-edge crossing throughout; coach flags any breakdown in form.
Goal
You've got it when your crossover pattern stays on the exact circle line at speed, no drifting in or out of the arc.
Helpful cues
- Drive from the outside edge, do not just step over
- Hips lead the crossover, not your shoulders
- Puck stays close, do not let it drift wide on the crossover

Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
