How it works
Teach young players a simple breathing reset to regain composure after a mistake or stressful moment on ice.

Your focus
Young players who learn early to physically reset after a mistake carry that skill through their entire career. A structured breath-and-skate routine interrupts the emotional spiral that follows errors and creates a reliable pathway back to focused play. Teaching composure at age 6-9 normalizes emotional regulation as part of sport performance.
Coach blows whistle mid-drill to call a 'fake mistake moment', a player deliberately fumbles or drops the ball.
Player stops, takes one slow deep breath in and out.
Player skates one small circle around the nearest the start of play dot.
Coach immediately passes them a ball for a simple successful skill, finishing on a positive rep.
Helpful cues
- One breath, then skate on
- Mistakes happen to everyone; what matters is what you do next
- Keep your head up after a mistake, eyes forward
